We recently completed a full renovation project on a Victorian family house. Our clients wanted an enduring, practical house for their family of five, with a sophisticated yet fun interior which would stand the test of time. We stripped out the dated decor entirely and began afresh, giving our clients a long-term family home of which they can be proud.
Oxshott is a tranquil suburban village, nestled within the Elmbridge borough of Surrey. This leafy little hamlet used to be more isolated from its neighbouring towns and villages in its history, when it was only connected to other settlements via footpaths, with no proper roads or transport links. It was only in 1855 that the construction of the railway station at Oxshott (first called Oxshott and Fairmile) encouraged non-residents to visit and appreciate the village’s scenery with considerably greater ease.
Though it’s thankfully much more accessible now than it was in the past (only 30 minutes to London Waterloo by train), it retains its peaceful, chocolate box ambience.
The main attraction of the village is its scenic beauty and humble history. It’s one of the most affluent commuter towns in Surrey and is best known as a destination of discrete relaxation, however, there are some very appealing places of interest to visit, such as the Fire and Iron gallery for metal art at Rowhurst Forge. Housed in a beautiful listed building, the gallery exhibits incredible works by international artists in all different metal mediums, from tin and brass to gold and silver, including jewellery and imposing sculpture. Works of art are also available to purchase.
Nearby to Oxshott you can also find the beautiful Wisley gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society – simply stunning, and particularly appealing to the green-fingered. Oxshott is also ideally situated for visiting both the Brooklands motor and aviation museum, and the Cobham Bus Museum, which are both home to some fascinating exhibits. The region of Sunningdale is also within driving distance from Oxshott.
The Bear and The Victoria are Oxshott’s most popular drinking and dining destinations amongst residents, serving sumptuous British food and local craft beers, both with inviting interior architecture and lovely outdoor dining spaces. Its close proximity to London means that the nightlife of the city is never too far away – however you’d never know it from the peaceful ambience of the village, making it the best of both worlds for those who value privacy and tranquillity.
The tranquil village of Oxshott is a peaceful retreat from the contrasting hustle and bustle of London, and as a result of this (and its attractive, leafy lusciousness) it’s a miniature hotspot for stars of the stage, screen and pitch. Notable residents include tennis champion Andy Murray, Chelsea footballer John Terry, Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme and Jamie and Louise Redknapp – to name but a few of the star-studded residents.
