Paris is an architectural wonderland that encompasses a vast array of styles including Baroque, Belle Epoque and Art Nouveau. Exquisite structures that have become world famous landmarks can be found on either bank of the River Seine. Notre Dame Cathedral, The Arc de Triomphe, Les Invalides, the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and La Grande Arche de la Défense, the skyline is a visual chronology of historic to modern Parisian architecture – all influences on contemporary luxury interior design in Paris.
It is the most sophisticated city in Europe and its status as a paragon of style has seen its cobbled streets and grand boulevards act as a muse for luxury interior designers around the world. From the resplendent halls of the Palace of Versailles to Baron Hausmann’s audacious 19th-century urban planning that saw the streets of Paris transformed, each style has made lasting impact. Hausmann’s legacy is one that can be seen all over Paris today in the wide avenues flanked with trees, grand buildings and intricate wrought iron balconies. Paris has continued to embody an intellectual and artistic atmosphere while incorporating village-like arrondissements, each with a distinct identity in the centre of a cosmopolitan city.
Our team of luxury interior designers in France has transformed a residence in Nice’s trendy Rue Bonaparte. The apartment in Nice presented quite a challenge as it had not been renovated in 50 years and was in desperate need of an overhaul. We optimised its key features, which included an idyllic location near the port overlooking a peaceful courtyard, by adding custom-fitted lighting and bespoke furniture and art. The original stone walls and beamed ceilings were kept but the rest of the building was gutted and rebuilt from scratch. Five rooms were demolished to make way for a huge open plan living space, including a kitchen and dining area with lots of custom-made furniture and a touch of chic je ne sais quoi!
Property in Paris is highly sought after as the city is both a commercial and cultural hub. In addition to its fantastic shops, museums and restaurants, Paris provides a perfect slice of the quiet life, too. It has numerous green open spaces such as the Jardin du Luxembourg and Jardin des Tuileries which are ideal for quiet contemplation, family walks or exercise.
There are a number of excellent schools that provide an international or bilingual education for all ages. The International School of Paris (ISP) offers the International Baccalaureate curriculum to children aged 3-18 years old in English with support for 20 mother-tongue languages, while the American School of Paris (ASP) offers private co-education in English for children aged 2-18.
Paris has been home to numerous artists and writers over the years, not least the “Lost Generation” which included literary greats such as Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound and F.Scott Fitzgerald. Gertrude Stein often entertained these young luminaries at her home on 27 rue de Fleurus on the Left Bank along with other acquaintances such as Picasso and James Joyce. The streets and buildings exude this eclectic artistic influence and luxury interior designers in Paris channel it into their work. Paris is home to a large proportion of French celebrities and luminaries and more recently several expats. Actors Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson, Charlotte Rampling, Natalie Portman and Diane Kruger live or have lived in Paris at some point.
